We knew the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge smartphone would be thin at just 5.8mm but it wasn’t until we held it in our hand that we appreciated its remarkably thin form factor.
And it was also then we realised how we much we wanted it.
After handling the S25 Edge, the S25 Ultra and S25+ both felt like bricks in comparison.
We stacked two 20 cent coins next to the device and it was almost slightly less than the 5.8mm thickness of the device.
Samsung teased the S25 Edge back in January at the S25 series launch and today officially revealed all the specs, features and pricing.
This has been positioned as a flagship product – it is priced from $1,849 and will go on sale on May 30.
Customers haven’t exactly been beating down Samsung’s door to create a thin smartphone.
It was designed to show potential customers that Samsung could come up with a super thin and light device without compromising many of the flagship features.
And it wasn’t released alongside the other S25 devices because the company didn’t want to lessen the release of its latest highly anticipated models.
By teasing the S25 Edge it also told customers something else was coming rather than springing the device on them and not giving them the option.
But the elephant in the room is the looming release of the heavily rumoured iPhone 17 Air – Apple’s version of a supermodel thin smartphone.
Samsung saw the writing on the wall and decided to pull the trigger on their version of what will become a whole new class of device that will be created if and when Apple’s version is officially unveiled.
Apart from being wafer thin, the Samsung Galaxy S25 edge has a similar design to the other members of the S25 family.
It has a strong titanium frame and a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X 120Hz display covered with the latest Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 – a brand new strong glass ceramic material.
And it weighs in at just 163g.
“Galaxy S25 Edge is more than a slim smartphone. The superior engineering that brought this revolutionary smartphone to life illustrates a commitment to overcoming barriers that helps Galaxy deliver truly unexpected premium experiences for people around the world,” said TM Roh, President and Acting Head of the Device eXperience (DX) Division at Samsung Electronics.
“S25 Edge not only marks a breakthrough for its category, but it also accelerates
important innovation across the mobile industry.
You have to hold the Samsung S25 Edge in your hand to appreciate the super thin form factor.
It felt great in our hands and made other devices look gargantuan.
Even with one of the many covers Samsung will offer, the S25 Edge is still super slim.
On the camera side, Samsung has included the same 200MP wide lens from the S25 Ultra along with the 12MP ultra-wide lens which will deliver excellent quality and provide a flagship experience.
Samsung says the camera can also handle low-light scenarios while still benefitting from the same ProVisual Engine that was introduced with the S25 series.
The S25 Edge is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform for Galaxy – the sane chip that’s used in the S25 smartphone series which means it can deliver Galaxy AI features with on-device processing and super-fast performance.
The S25 Edge has a 3,900 mAh battery – naturally this is a lower capacity than the other S25 models because of the thinner design – but Samsung says it will easily last an entire day on a single charge.
The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge will be available in three colours – Titanium Silver, Titanium JetBlack and Titanium IcyBlue.
It will be priced at $1,849 for the 256GB variant and $2,049 for the 512GB model.
The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge will go on sale on May 30.
