The HP OmniBook X Flip 14 is a 2-in-1 laptop that offers solid performance, AI features and the versatility to work, play and stay entertained anywhere.
The device is a laptop at first glance but the screen can be folded over and converted to a tablet for added convenience which is why it’s called a 2-in-1.
The unit weighs just 1.39kg so it’s no effort to carry it with you.
It has a stunning 14-inch 3K OLED touchscreen display with up to 500nits of HDR peak brightness which is not only superb for regular computing in laptop mode but also an amazing screen in tablet mode.
In tablet mode, the OmniBook X Flip is super responsive even when you’re using a stylus on the screen. The stylus does not come with the computer – it is an optional extra – but worth exploring if you really want to take full advantage of the form factor.
The only thing about the screen is that it is glossy which in most scenarios inside is fine but you do have to deal with serious reflections if you’re outdoors or in a bright room.
The keyboard is made up of large keys that are well spaced and have the same travel level of a MacBook’s keyboard.
And the fact the keys are so large means they are easier to hit – which for me meant fewer mistakes because I’m a terrible typist.
The OmniBook X Flip also has a generously sized trackpad so it’s easy to navigate without a mouse – although our preference is to always pair a small Bluetooth mouse with any laptop we use including this one.
But for those happy with using the trackpad, they will be happy with this one.
The OmniBook X Flip is powered by Intel’s Core Ultra 7 processor. Our review unit included 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD storage.
Performance-wise the unit easily kept up with our daily tasks which included editing photos and videos.
Our workflow didn’t put too much of a burden on the device but if you’re into heavier applications, 3D rendering, multi-threaded 8K video editing and the like then you may need to look for something with a little bit more processing power and more RAM.
On the software side, there is a lot of preloaded applications including HP AI Companion.
This is still in beta format but is basically your own personal version of ChatGPT that can help you increase your productivity and streamline your workflow.
Now this is on top of the already present Copilot+ features so there is no shortage of AI features that are at your fingertips.
The onboard HD webcam offers decent quality for video calls and the Poly Camera Pro application helps you optimise everything from your framing to your background as well as the audio and video quality.
On the connectivity side there are plenty of options including two USB Type A ports, one HDMI port and two USB-C ports which are capable of power delivery and connecting and external monitor.
There is a headphone/microphone jack as well.
The OmniBook X Flip has DTS-X Ultra dual speakers which offers surprising quality when watching movies or playing games.
Battery performance was also excellent and for our usage it easily lasted almost two full workdays before we had to reach for the charger.
HP has the battery life at almost 15 hours and that pretty much lined up with our experience.
The HP OmniBook X Flip 14 is available now and is priced at $1,699.
