Sony True RGB Bravia 7 II is a breakthrough TV for the brand that provides stunning quality and colour accuracy like never before. Sony's use of the new RGB technology is nothing short of remarkable.

The new Sony Bravia True RGB TV is a leap forward that will give customers even greater quality and performance to enjoy their home entertainment like never before.

Of course, at the heart of the TV is the RGB technology which replace the single-colour backlights with independently controlled red, green, and blue LEDs.

This not only improves the colour quality and volume but also addresses one of the biggest weaknesses of Mini LED – colour degradation during high brightness scenes.

Because Mini LED only had a single-colour backlight, it couldn’t address the level of colour when it needed to display brighter sections of the panel.

The colour filter above the backlight would have to fight against that added luminance to be seen.

The Sony Bravia True RGB 7 II

But that’s not an issue with the new Bravia True RGB TVs.

We reviewed the True RGB Bravia 7 II and noticed a remarkable improvement in picture quality and colour accuracy.

The core technology aboard the new Sony TV is its proprietary RGB Backlight Master Drive Pro and RGB Tri-Luminous Max engine.

Because the backlight is now made up of controlled red, green, and blue LEDs, it can now sidestep the issue of colour loss even as the luminance increases.

True RGB maintains the rich colour saturation and sharp contrast while also eliminating backlight bloom.

This is the glow you see around bright areas of the screen that often interfere with the other colours around it and generally degrade the picture.

The result is the best colour accuracy and saturation that we’ve ever seen on a Sony TV.

In fact Sony says that their new True RGB TVs achieve an unprecedented colour volume, the highest in Sony’s home TV history.

And it’s not hard to see the results.

We watched several movies and TV shows and free-to-air TV for our review.

Naturally the first port of call for content for many customers is streaming services.

The good news is Sony has studio-calibrated every TV to perform at its optimum level while streaming various platforms including Netflix and Prime Video.

This approach is satisfying to hear because no matter where you source your content, whether it’s off a disc, streaming service or live TV, the Sony Bravia True RGB TV is ready to offer you the best result.

We turned to Netflix to watch content for our review and demonstrate the TV’s new abilities.

We watched Apex starring Charlize Theron and there were many great examples of how the new RGB backlight system improved the picture quality and contrast.

Early in the film there are several scenes in the snow where the Charlize Theron character is mountain climbing with the Eric Bana character.

In these scenes we see the white clouds and bright snow next to darker colours of the mountain and their clothing.

What was impressive here was that the clouds and the stow were still quite bright but that did not interfere with the colour volume and accuracy.

In the movie Enola Holmes 3, which is set in Malta, the wide variety of colours and the different brightnesses and volumes really put the TV to the test.

But once again the Bravia 7 II literally came through with flying colours.

We were treated to remarkably accurate skin tones and other bright bold colours set against the sandstone and vegetation that required more luminance but they didn’t affect the brightness of the surrounding colours.

Even streaming full HD we also saw remarkable quality.

We were watching Collateral, starring Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx, on ABC iView and were impressed with its colour rendering, considering the entire film is set at night.

Thanks to the new RGB backlight technology we are still able to maintain better than average contrast so that the colours pop when they need to.

It also did a decent job upscaling the full HD image to near 4K quality.

Screen reflection top left corner

We also watched a fair bit of live sport on the TV and notice the refresh rate was sufficient to allow us to enjoy the action without too much motion blur.

One downside of the experience is the screen can be reflective.

Where we were watching the TV at our place, there was a window behind us and it could be seen in the top left hand corner of the screen.

To improve the situation we shut the blinds on the window to avoid the distraction.

One thing that surprised us about the Sony True RGB Bravia 7 was the audio quality.

The Sony Bravia True RGB 9 II with the Mirage Stand to conceal the cables

Under the hood is the Acoustic Multi Audio Plus which provided respectable surround sound and even a decent level of bass without a sound bar.

Dolby Atmos movies also offered a nice scale to the audio.

There’s also the Voice Zoom 3 feature, which can be activated to hear the voices even more clearly above all the other competing sounds.

The TV is running the Google operating system, which provides a clean and clear interface to find your favourite content and streaming services.

The TV has a slick design with ultra-thin bezels and a remarkable Mirage stand that makes the TV appear to be floating in mid-air.

The stand has a seemingly clear cover that can hide any cables that are running behind it to give it a cleaner less cluttered look.

The Sony TV Tech Guide reviewed was the Bravia 7 II 65-inch, which is priced at $3,999.

VERDICT

Sony True RGB Bravia 7 II is a breakthrough TV for the brand that provides stunning quality and colour accuracy like never before. Sony’s use of the new RGB technology is nothing short of remarkable.
