Add a whole dimension to your gaming with the Samsung Odyssey 3D monitor

If you want to add a whole new dimension to your gaming – literally – then you need to see the new Samsung Odyssey 3D monitor which works glasses free.

The 27-inch 4K gaming monitor has a lenticular lens and uses dual camera eye tracking to see your eyes in real time and adjust each pixel to create a stunning 3D image without having to wear glasses.

It uses a series of cylindrical lenses that separate the light that goes into each eye and thereby creating the 3D image

Tech Guide sat down to use the Odyssey 3D monitor and we were stunned with the quality and accuracy of the 3D image.

Over the years we’ve seen plenty of attempts to create the glasses-free 3D experience but they don’t hold a candle to the Samsung Odyssey 3D monitor.

I know what you’re thinking – why can’t Samsung make a TV using this technology?

Well, technically they could, but it would only work for one viewer sitting front and centre.

For everyone else it would just be a blur.

But for gamers, who sit alone while playing their game, it’s a perfect fit.

And what’s better is that you don’t need an original 3D title to view it in 3D.

The Odyssey 3D looks at each scene and process it using a depth estimation AI model before analysing all the objects in the scene and estimating the depth of each of these items.

The next step is picture optimization to fill in any visual holes using the AI model to ensure accuracy as well as evaluating a possible fatigue level for the person watching the content.

What we saw was nothing short of remarkable.

For our review we were playing the latest action RPG (role playing game), The First Berseker: Khazan released by Nexon which was optimised for 3D gameplay.

The additional depth and contrast draws you further into the game and into the action.

The Samsung Odyssey 3D monitor can also function like a regular 2D monitor.

But the Odyssey 3D hub app must be installed on a PC to access 3D optimised content.

Users can download the app from samsung.com or the Microsoft Store.

Currently only the games in the Odyssey 3D hub can be viewed in 3D.

These include Lies of P, Stray, Dragonball Z:kakarot, Little Nightmares II, F.I.S.T, SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake, Wigmund, Grand Theft Auto III – The Definitive Edition, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City – The Definitive Edition, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas – The Definitive Edition, Disney Epic Mickey Rebrushed, The Smurfs – Dreams and PALWORLD

And if you want to take a break from gaming, uses can fire up a movie or a TV show and watch it in 3D as well.

This will allow you to see how the AI 3D video conversion engine can analyse video content in real time and filling the gaps and adjust the depth to reduce eye fatigue.

But at its heart the Samsung Odyssey 3D is a serious gaming monitor with a 165Hz refresh rate and 1ms response time.

This means it can deliver super smooth visuals and instant input response to make it the ideal choice for playing those fast-paced high energy titles.

The monitor supports AMD FreeSync Premium which reduces screen tearing and stuttering by syncing the monitors refresh rate with your GPU.

Also on board to complete the experiences is edge lighting and spatial audio through two 5W speakers so your game sounds as good as it looks and pulls you deeper into the action

The Samsung Odyssey 3D (G90XF) monitor is available now and is priced at $2,999.
