The Samsung Galaxy A37 smartphone is a more than capable device and aimed at those customers who are looking for features and quality without breaking the bank. The A37 easily fits the bill.
The mid-tier smartphone market is a very popular one and the devices at this level offer more features and value than ever and an impressive example is Samsung’s new Galaxy A37.
Sure, we all know the flagship Galaxy S series but these have flagship features to go with its flagship pricing.
The Samsung Galaxy A series is more affordable and while it doesn’t have all the speed, power and performance of the S-series, it still has its fair share of features that meet everyone’s needs.
Priced at $599, the Samsung Galaxy A37 offers a lot of bang for your buck.
DESIGN
The Galaxy A37 has a sleek look and feel and follows the design language of the Samsung S Series.
The device is just 7.4mm thick and weighs 196g.
We were sent the A37 in Awesome Lavender – the colour can be appreciated on the glossy back panel and extends to the aluminium edges of the phone.
Having this colour also hides the fingerprints on the back that would be more noticeable on a darker colour.
It has a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display with 120Hz variable refresh rate and up to 1,900 nits peak brightness.
PERFORMANCE
The A37 is powered by the Exynos 1480 chip which does the job for smooth daily performance and processing.
We didn’t experience too much lag – and this was after switching from the S26 Ultra.
There’s enough speed to navigate the system and enough power to adequately perform AI tasks and editing.
The device is running the same OneUI 8.5 operating system as the S Series of devices above Android 16.
On the security side the device is protected with a fingerprint reader.
There were times when our fingerprint wouldn’t be recognised and it took several attempts to unlock the device.
AI FEATURES
Samsung has included some, not all, Galaxy AI features on the A37. If you want the full set then you’d need to shell out for the Galaxy S series.
But that doesn’t mean there aren’t enough AI features on the A37.
Onboard are features including Voice Transcription. This is a new feature on the voice recorder app, which offers a full transcription of what you’ve just recorded seconds after your recording is completed.
Then of course there is Object Eraser, which allows you to remove background clutter from your images.
And the ever-popular circle to search with Google also is available to help you search for items from an image.
And there’s also the writing tools and other options to help improve your creativity and productivity.
Overall the AI features are more than adequate for your average user.
CAMERA
On the camera side the A37 has an 8MP ultra-wide, 50MP wide camera, 5 MP macro camera and a 12MP front camera.
That’s a decent line up of lenses to take some impressive images and videos.
The camera has AI-based subject recognition to help optimise your images and balance your portraits while preserving natural skin tones and creating clearer background separations.
You’re not going to get a telephoto lens that’s not a deal breaker.
The A37 still captured some excellent images with natural tones and excellent brightness.
Taking pictures in bright sunlight was no effort it also did a reasonable job taking low-light images as well.
On the video side users can capture 4K videos at up to 30 frames per second.
For a smartphone at this price point, the camera on board the A37 can more than hold its own.
BATTERY
The Samsung Galaxy A37 has a 5000 mAh battery that will easily get you through the day and into the next.
It does offer 45W wired charging, which can get you from 0 to 100 per cent in around 90 minutes.
It doesn’t have wireless charging unfortunately.
