TomTom reveals new GPS sports watches

TomTom, the company behind the popular in-car GPS systems, has revealed new GPS sports watches with extra large displays and simple one-button control.

The TomTom Runner and TomTom Multisport GPS watches both have larger, high resolution and high contrast displays that are easy to read even in bright sunshine.

This makes it easier for users to read information like distance, time and pace.

Also on board the devices is a Graphical Training Partner which helps get the most out of your workout.

There are three modes – race, goal and zone – which lets you race against a personal best, set a distance time or calorie goal or set a target for pace and heart-rate respectively.

The intuitive one-button controls makes the TomTom GPS sports watches easy to operate while you’re exercising and in any weather conditions.

The button allows users to easily navigate up, down, left and right and can even be used while wearing gloves.

The TomTom Runner and Multisport GPS are 11.5mm thick and are suitable for men and women.

Other features include an indoor tracker which can still track runs and movement indoors using sensors to count steps and even register pace and distance on a treadmill.

The QuickGPSFix feature lives up to its name and can quickly find your precise position so the GPS receiver can accurately record your distance and speeds.

Of course the devices are weatherproof and waterproof up to a depth of 50m.

Also on board is Bluetooth to connect wirelessly to sensors and heart rate monitors.

Information gathered by the TomTom Runner and Multisport GPS can also be shared and analysed on multiple platforms including TomTom’s MySports website, MapMyFitness, Runkeeper, TrainingPeaks and MyFitnessPal.

The TomTom Multisport also includes a dedicated bike mount to convert the device into a cycling computer complete with a cadence sensor and built-in altimeter.

It can also be used while you’re swimming and can capture swim metrics like laps, strokes, time and speed.

The TomTom Runner and TomTom Multisport GPS will be released in mid 2013 with pricing to be revealed closer to launch.
