But Optus has unveiled a new payment method that now means you don’t even need to take your smartphone out of your pocket either. It uses wearable technology and in particular – a smartwatch. The scheme was formulated by internet service providers under strict instructions from the Australian Federal Government. Apple will be holding a special launch event in San Francisco called “Spring Forward” on March 9 (March 10 in Australia), which is expected to focus on the upcoming Apple Watch. Optus has announced a partnership with Westfield to rollout state-of-the-art wi-fi services across 21 shopping centres across Australia to offer customers cutting edge digital connectivity. Commencing this month, the rollout will provide shoppers with fast, free wi-fi across the entire centre. The service will include up to 1GB of data free for a three-hour period each day.
