How Optus mobile customers can make and receive calls over wi-fi
Optus has introduced a new way for its phone customers to stay in touch with the launch of a new app that enables users to make and receive calls and text messages over a wi-fi connection.
WiFi Talk makes it possible for users to stay in touch as long as they are connected to a wireless network.
This is suitable when cellular coverage is limited indoors whether you’re at home, in your office or in a shopping centre.
And, unlike some other apps, WiFi Talk lets customers still use their existing Optus mobile number.
WiFi Talk users can use a wi-fi connection that’s 100bbps or faster to call any other other mobile number or landline in Australia and overseas.
Even when receiving a call on wi-fi, the people on the other end don’t need the app and can be calling from another network.
Calls made with WiFi Talk are charged to your mobile bill with the same rates and inclusions as your Optus mobile plan.
Amanda Hutton, Optus Vice President of Customer Experience and Delivery said: “Optus is focused on giving our customers the best possible experience.
“WiFi Talk is an innovative solution to help customers stay connected easily if mobile coverage is limited indoors, whether at home, in the office, or even in places such as shopping centres.
“The app is simple and easy to use. Unlike traditional WiFi calling applications, it uses your existing Optus mobile number when people call or text you, and they don’t need the app or have to do anything differently.”
The WiFi Talk app is available for free from the App Store for iPhone users and the Google Play Store for Android smartphone users.
