Modern technology gives us many things.

Apple Watch Series 4 has new heart health features and fall detection

Apple has introduced a redesigned and re-engineered Apple Watch Series 4 with a larger display that focuses on health and fitness while also keeping users connected at the same time.

The new Apple Watch Series 4 has numerous improvements on both the hardware and software side.

It will also be available into new sizes – 40mm and 44mm – and starts at $599 (40mm) and $649 (44mm).

The cellular versions will start at $749 (40mm Cellular) and $799 (44mm Cellular).

The device is available to preorder from tomorrow (September 14) and goes on sale on September 21.

Apple Watch Series 4 has been slightly redesigned with more subtle rounded corners and is also slightly thinner.

The speaker is also 50 per cent louder which is handy for phone calls, Siri and the new Walkie Talkie feature of watchOS5.

The microphone has also been relocated to the side opposite the speaker to offer better sound quality and less echo.

It’s also powered by the next generation S4 chip with a custom 64-bit dual core processor which means it’s twice as fast while still offering the same all-day battery life.

Apple Watch Series 4 has got your health in mind and includes an ECG (electrocardiography) app and fall detection.

The ECG uses the electrodes built into the digital crown and a new electrical heart rate sensor so users can receive a heart rhythm classification.

It’s even advanced enough to tell you if your heart is beating in a normal pattern or whether there are signs of Atrial Fibrillation – a condition that can lead to major health problems.

The new fall detection feature takes advantage of a new accelerometer and gyroscope which can identify what a hard fall occurs.

It can even analyse wrist trajectory and impact acceleration send an alert or even trigger an emergency call if the Apple Watch can’t sense any movement for 60 seconds or more.

Apple Watch has improved dramatically as a fitness device as well and the latest model takes that even further.

There is automatic workout detection along with new workout types that can accurately track active calories burned and exercise minutes earned.

Yoga and hiking have now also been given dedicated workout types which can be tracked.

There are now even more watch faces and complications to choose from with the ability to create shortcuts for contacts and the ability to track different time zones while monitoring your step count and battery level.

There will also be numerous shortcuts to apps so you can see relevant information at a performance.

On the connectivity side, the cellular model of the Apple Watch Series 4 will still allow users to make and receive calls and messages and use data even if they don’t have their iPhone.

Apple Watch Series 4 is available in three aluminium finishes – silver, gold, and space grey and now comes in gold stainless steel to join the silver and space black stainless steel models.

There will also be a new collection of bands to be released later this year with all bands compatible with any generation of Apple Watch.

Preorders kick off tomorrow (September 14) and will be available in stores from September 21.
