Tech Guide has gone hands-on with the ASUS ROG Xbox Ally X20 handheld gaming PC which is ideal for the gamer who wants to play the latest titles anywhere.
The 20th anniversary edition has a translucent design and gold accents to make it stand out from the regular model.
If a Windows gaming PC and an Xbox got together and had a child this would be the result.
A product that has the power of a PC and the gaming features of an Xbox – and with all the titles that go with it including the latest release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 that we enjoyed playing on the move on the X20.
What grabs your attention from the get-go is the 7.4-inch OLED display, which has 1080p resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate.
It’s also more glare-resistant than the previous model to ensure your gaming anywhere, even outside, is distraction-free.
On that stunning screen games they look great but are also quite responsive at the same time.
There’s a dedicated Xbox button on the top-left side of the device so you can hop straight into your games.
The ergonomically designed controllers feel comfortable in your hands and give you easy access to buttons above it, beside it and below it to make use of all the features and weapons at your disposal.
The joysticks are solid and responsive – regular gamers will be impressed by their precision.
Under the hood is the AMD AI Ryzen AZ extreme processor with 24GB high-speed LPDDR5x RAM and a 1TB SSD.
This is the same chipset as the previous model but still performed remarkably well even with the latest games like call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, Star Wars Galactic Racer and Forza Horizon 6.
The 80Wh battery give you up to 3 hours of gameplay when you’re playing more intense and processor-sapping games.
If you want to settle for solitaire and the odd game of Sudoku, then you’ll get hours more out of it.
There’s also no charger in the box so if you are intending to buy one for the device, then look for a faster 35W charger to get you back up to full capacity even faster.
The only real downside of the ROG Xbox Ally X20 is the price, which is $2,499.
We understand there are a lot of pricing pressures with the memory and storage shortage affecting every tech manufacturer and ASUS is no different.
The Ally X20 was also available in a sold out bundle (priced at $4,499) that included the exclusive ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 Gaming AR glasses, ROG XD Brand Kill Switch case and a ROG X Pelican Protector case.
The ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 Gaming AR Glasses is even more immersive with the onboard OLED 240Hz display providing the equivalent of a 171-inch virtual screen at 4m.
The ROG XBOX Ally X20 handheld gaming PC is available now ahead via the ASUS Store and from JB Hi-Fi.
