Google has introduced Personal Intelligence to the Gemini app in Australia to make it easier for your device to learn and understand the things that matter most to you.
Personal Intelligence allows users to link information from apps like Gmail and Google Photos to make Gemini even more personalised and unique to you.
Users can control which apps to link, with each improving the experience and personalising it even further.
It will be able to connect Gmail, Photos, YouTube, and Search with a single tap while maintaining simplicity and security.
Personal Intelligence has two main pillars – reasoning across complex sources and retrieving specific details that are relevant to you.
Your question may require retrieving specific details from an email or a photo and Gemini can combine this with text, photos and videos to provide uniquely tailored responses.
For example, imagine you’re planning a holiday and you know you’ve received booking confirmations for your flights and hotel but the details are scattered across your digital life.
With Personal Intelligence you can ask Gemini, “What are my travel plans?” and it takes it beyond just a simple search.
It can pull your booking details from Gmail into a clear timeline. Because it understands context from photos, it can retrieve a screenshot you took of a local map or photo of a gift or souvenir idea you saved weeks earlier.
Gemini might also suggest a restaurant based on a YouTube video you recently watched about local food trends.
And all of this means you don’t have to dig through emails and multiple apps to find what you want.
Personal Intelligence has been built with privacy in mind.
Users can connect their apps by default and decide which apps to connect and turn it off at any time.
And because all the data lives at Google securely, there is no need to send sensitive data anywhere to start personalising your experience.
Users don’t have to worry where the answers come from but Gemini will try to reference or explain the information if you ask it.
There are some guardrails in place, however, for sensitive topics.
For example, Google will avoid making proactive assumptions about sensitive data like your health but it will discuss that data with you if you ask it.
Personal Intelligence has been thoroughly beta-tested to minimise mistakes but they haven’t been completely eliminated.
Some users may encounter inaccurate responses or over-personalization where connections have been made between unrelated topics.
Google has built-in a feedback functionality which allows users to give responses a thumbs down if they are not happy with the answer.
Personal Intelligence will be available for personal Google accounts for eligible Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers and will continue rolling out to free users as well.
If you don’t see an invitation to try it on the home screen of Gemini, you can simply open Gemini and tap Settings, tap Personal Intelligence and select Connected Apps.
