Maybe it’s your mother-in-law.
Maybe it’s international telemarketers (how do they even get your number?)
Whoever the unsolicited or unwanted caller, there comes a time for many of us where blocking calls from an incoming number is the best solution.
Depending on your make and model, the process below may differ slightly.
Step-by-step for blocking a contact on Android smartphones
- Open the main Phone app from your home screen.
- Tap the Android settings/option button to bring up the available options.
Editor Note: For Galaxy S4 models, the button is the native bottom left button. For Galaxy S5 models, this is the 3 vertical dots button on your main call app screen. - Tap ‘Call settings’.
- Tap ‘Call rejection’.
- Tap ‘Auto reject mode’ to temporarily reject all incoming numbers. If you would like to reject only a specific number, tap ‘Auto reject list’.
- Tap Auto Reject List to open the list.
- Input the number you would like to block. Tap ‘Match Criteria’ to specify whether to block ‘Exactly the same as’ the number you entered, or anything that starts, ends or includes your phone number (for example, a telemarketing company may call from a variety of numbers but always begin with the same sequence e.g ‘1300221’. In order to block all possible variable contact numbers from this source, you would input 1300221 and select the ‘Starts with’ or ‘Includes’ options.
- Having difficulty using the native Android phone call blocking functionality? You can always turn to Google for a third party app solution.
