A safe return to school and officers will be supported with the deployment of air purifiers in these spaces to keep students and staff safe in a post-COVID environment.
In fact, the Department of Education and Training in Victoria has announced it will be installing 51,000 Samsung AX90T air purifiers in public classrooms to help chart the safe return of students into the classroom.
The air purifiers will be deployed over the next four months with Samsung chartering flights from its manufacturing hub in Korea to deliver the units as quickly as possible.
“It’s tremendous to see that the Department of Education and Training Victoria has reviewed a multitude of options to keep Victorian students safe as they return to school in a post-COVID environment and we are thrilled to be a part of their plan,” says Jeremy Senior, Vice President of Consumer Electronics at Samsung Electronics Australia.
“Research has shown air purifiers can help minimise the spread of harmful airborne contaminates.
“We believe that the addition of air purifiers with HEPA filters into classrooms will also bring confidence that the right precautious are being taken as we get into the rhythm of our new normal.”
The efficiency of portable air purifiers has been verified by University of Melbourne research and since published in the Journal of Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology.
Using the Samsung AX5500 air purifier, the research found that portable air cleaning devices that have HEPA filtration have helped increase the clearance of aerosols and airborne contaminants.
And Samsung’s technology allows for remote operation of its air purifiers with SmartThings and Business IoT software enabling remote management of these devices at scale across school, hospitals, quarantine hotels, officers and other indoor environments.
“I know Victorian families can’t wait to see their kids back in the classroom – but we need to keep them safe once they’re there, and we’re delivering ventilation devices to prevent as much transmission on school sites as possible,” Minister for Education in Victoria, Hon. James Merlino MP, said.

“With a roadmap in place to get all students back to school safely, we’ll make sure every single Victorian child is supported when they’re back in the classroom – whether that’s with their schoolwork or their wellbeing.”
Samsung’s air purifiers are already being used in public and corporate sectors to reduce the risk of airborne transmission of COVID-19 including in the hotel quarantine programs in Victoria and Queensland and other major hospitals.
SAMSUNG’S KEY AIR PURIFIER MODELS
SAMSUNG AX90T7080WD – $999
The AX90T7080WD can reach from corner to corner in the room thanks to its front air Inflow designed to draw air in easily, while the dual power fan discharges the air following the purification process using its three-way air flow. This enables the airflow to reach a wider area more quickly, achieving a particle clean air delivery rate (CADR) of 701 cubic meters per hour. The AX90T7080WD also features a numeric air quality display and a Laser PM 1.0 sensor, which monitors air quality in real-time, displaying the air quality level with a four-colour Indicator. Wi-Fi connectivity. Recognised by the Australian Asthma Council’s Sensitive Choice program and awarded ‘Overall Best Performer’ as recommended by CHOICE experts.
SAMSUNG AX60T5080WD $799
The AX60T5080WD offers fast and wide coverage with a front air inflow is designed to draw air in easily. After going through the purification process, a power fan then quickly distributes the clean air in multiple directions using its three-way air flow. This enables the airflow to reach a wider area more quickly, achieving a particle clean air delivery rate (CADR) of 455 cubic meters per hour. The AX60T5080WD also features a numeric air quality display and a Laser PM 1.0 sensor. The sensor monitors air quality in real-time, displaying the air quality level with a four-colour indicator. The unit features hidden wheels that let users easily move the unit where they need it most. Wi-Fi connectivity.
