LG has launched its new G8S ThinQ smartphone which includes advanced optics, audio and security features through Telstra with the first 1000 customers receiving a bonus LG 43-inch UHD Smart TV.

From today anyone purchasing the device through Telstra on an eligible plan before August 6 will receive the 43-inch LG TV as a bonus.

The device includes an innovative Hand ID feature which can unlock your device by reading the veins in your palm.

The technology can recognise the shape, thickness and other characteristics of the veins in your palm.

The LG GS8 ThinQ also has a rear fingerprint reader as well as Face Unlock.

Hand ID is a little more convenient and allows users to unlock their device when they can’t pick up their phone.

“Incorporating features consumers are looking for in a smartphone, the LG G8S ThinQ hits the mark,” said Angus Jones, General Manager Marketing, LG Australia.

“Our innovative approach to the modern smartphone offers users a range of security options that suit their varying needs.

“Whether it’s Hand ID for busy families, Air Motion for controlling select features without touching the phone, or Face Recognition, there are multiple options.

“Through our partnership with Telstra, we are excited to bring a new world of smartphone convenience to Australian consumers and are looking forward to seeing the ways it will be used to enrich their lives,” he added.

The LG GS8 ThinQ has a 6.2 inch 18.7:9 FHD+ OLED FullVision display with a resolution of 2048 x 1080.

It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 mobile platform and has 6GB RAM, 128GB internal storage along with a microSD card slot to expand the memory by up to 2TB.

The device has three rear cameras which include a 13-megapixel wide angle lens, a 12-megapixel standard lens and a 12-megapixel telephoto lens.

On the front is a 8-megapixel camera and a Z Camera which utilises time-of-flight technology to calculate depth quickly and accurately by seeing objects in 3D.

This feature powers Face Unlock and is impossible to fool with a two-dimensional image.

The Z Camera also comes into play when shooting portraits and videos and gives users control of the background blur.

On the audio side, the LG GS8 ThinQ also delivers thanks to the popular Boombox Speaker which uses the internal space of the device as a resonance chamber to produce impressive bass and high-quality audio without the need to connect an external speaker.

The LG GS8 ThinQ is available today through Telstra and the first 1000 customers have until August 6 to purchase the device on an eligible plan to claim their bonus LG 43 inch h UHD Smart TV.
