Optus launches new Family Plan to safely share data across four SIM cards

Optus has launched a new Family Plan to share a pool of data among four people in response to internet safety concerns and protecting children online.

A survey of more than 1000 Australian parents expressed concern over their children’s safety while they are online and using technology.

The new Optus Family Plan will include 250GB of monthly data to share across four SIM cards.

On top of the obvious convenience of such a data pool, Optus will include a number of tools, including a subscription to McAfee Safe Family at no additional cost, to help families protect themselves online.

The study showed two thirds of Australian parents are concerned with their child’s Internet security and safety with 45 per cent not having any safety measures in place.

With smartphones giving children unlimited access to the Internet, parents are concerned their child will come across inappropriate content or become a victim of cyber bullying.

More than 72 per cent of children age between 5 and 10 have access to two or more devices in a typical day and almost half of Aussie kids know the password to their parents’ phone or iPad.

It’s no secret that children are very active online, whether it be for social, gaming or education purposes and it’s crucial parents are equipped with the best possible solutions to keep their families safe online,” says Matt Williams, Optus managing director for marketing and revenue.
“At Optus we are stepping up to the challenge with an affordable family plan.

“With 67% of Australian parents believing that companies like ours could be doing more to support them when it comes to protecting their children online, we feel like there is no better time to be launching these plans.”

The Optus Family Plan includes 250GB of data per month to share at a cost of $149 a month which works out to be $37.25 per SIM per month.

The product also comes with McAfee Safe Family parental controls, free 12-month subscriptions to Apple Music and access to the Digital Thumbprint educational hub to learn more about safely navigating the internet and social media.

The plan also provides unlimited talk and text for each SIM.

If there are more than four in your family you can add up to four extra SIMs to the plan for $29 a month each.
