Optus has announced a 5G smartphone price match guarantee – which is being seen as a shot across Telstra’s bow – just weeks before the highly-anticipated 5G iPhone 12 goes on sale in Australia.
Optus and Telstra – the two biggest telcos in Australia – are jostling for customers as they make preparations for the launch the iPhone 12 which will be Apple’s first 5G device.
The release of the new iPhone, expected before the end of October, is set to be the biggest Apple launch for years.
And the fact it is a 5G device will create even more awareness among customers about the size of the Optus and Telstra 5G networks and how well the iPhone 12 will perform on the faster networks.
The 5G smartphone price guarantee means Optus will match the retail price for the same 5G phone as well as offering flexible Choice plans which provides access to Optus’s high-speed 5G network.
“At Optus we believe the amazing potential with 5G and that’s why we’re now offering a 5G Price Match Guarantee on 5G phones.” Optus’ Managing Director of Marketing and Revenue Matt Williams said.
“Named Canstar Blue’s ‘Phone on a Plan’ Outstanding value winner two years running, Optus customers have access to great value plans, a fast 5G network and exclusive content on Optus Sport such as the Premier League and K League live, plus access to Optus Sport Fitness with 120 videos for dance, yoga, Pilates and more.
