New Nokia 8.1 smartphone includes advanced camera, AI and a HDR display
Nokia has unveiled the latest in its value flagship range – the Nokia 8.1 – which includes an advanced camera with Zeiss optics and PureScreen display technology with support for HDR (high dynamic range).
The device has a 6.18-inch full high definition edge-to-edge display and is housed within a stylish two-tone chassis that contrasts curved glass, polished metal, diamond cut edges and with a sand-blasted finish.
The frame is made from aluminium with a diecast centre for added strength and durability.
Nokia 8.1 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 Mobile Platform with twice the AI power thanks to the multi-core AI Engine.
It is the first Nokia smartphone to launch with Android 9 Pie right out of the box and includes three years of monthly security patches and two major OS upgrades so customers are looked after well after they purchase the device.
One of the strengths of the Nokia 8.1 will be the 12-megapixel main camera with Zeiss optics with OIS (optical image stabilisation) that adds up to rich and detailed images.
There’s also a secondary 13-megapixel depth sensor to create stunning bokeh effect portrait shots.
On the front is an impressive 20-megapixel adaptive camera that lets you capture clear night-time selfies.
The viewing experience on the Nokia 8.1 has also been enhanced.
The PureScreen display can display higher contrast and greater clarity with HDR 10 and remain accurate no matter your viewing conditions.
Another strength of the Nokia 8.1 is the battery that parent company HMD Global claims will run for two days thanks to the efficiency of the Adaptive Battery feature.
Adaptive Battery can limit battery usage from apps you hardly use while the App Actions feature can see the apps you use often and predict which one you’re about to use and ensure that next action takes place quickly.
The Nokia 8.1 goes on sale on February 21 at Officeworks and JB Hi-Fi and will be available in two colours – blue/silver and steel/copper. It will be priced at $699.
