LG G Flex curved smartphone to go on sale at Harvey Norman

lg14cespress1LG today announced the G Flex – the world’s first curved smartphone – will go on sale in February in Australia exclusively through Harvey Norman stores.

The device has a flexible 6-inch high definition curved P-OLED screen with a self-healing back panel that can repair itself if it is scratched.

And it’s not called Flex for nothing. The device can actually be flattened without breaking and then snap back to its original curve.

Customers can buy the LG G Flex smartphone from Harvey Norman outright for $999 unlocked or on an Optus MyPlan contract starting at $60 a month.

Users who connect their G Flex on an Optus MyPlan will receive a $200 Harvey Norman gift voucher.

The LG G Flex was showcased at the recent International Consumer Electronics Show and is designed to fit the contour of your hand and face when making and receiving calls.

And like its larger curved OLED TV cousins, the G Flex’s curved screen also offers an immersive viewing experience with remarkable sharpness and clarity.

The device follows in the footsteps of the impressive G2 smartphone by locating the buttons on the rear panel instead of on the sides.

This makes the device easier to control with one hand and also presents an easy way to take those increasingly popular selfies.

Other features onboard include Dual Window to multitask with two apps at once and Urgent Call Alert which flashes the rear LED in red to indicate several unanswered calls from the same person.

Under the hood is the Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 operating system with 32GB internal memory and a curved 3500mAh battery.

Also onboard is a 13-megapixel camera and a front 2.1-megapixel camera.

The LG Flex is 16cm long, 8.16cm wide and 8.7mm thick and weighs 177g.

Pre-orders for the LG G Flex smartphone can be made via the Harvey Norman website ahead of its February release.
