Apple has confirmed a launch event which will see the introduction of the iPhone 18 Pro and the highly anticipated iPhone Ultra, the company’s first foldable iPhone.
The event will take place on September 9 at 10am (US time) which is 3am on September 10 (Sydney time).
Apple’s invitation is labelled “Surprise and Shine” and features a shimmering Apple logo.
This is shaping up to be one of the most significant launch events in the company’s history with the introduction of not only the latest iPhone Pro models but the company’s very first foldable iPhone.
It is the biggest form factor departure Apple has attempted in the 20-year history of iPhones.
It’s also marks the first launch event headed by incoming Apple CEO John Ternus.
Apple will reportedly not release an entry-level iPhone 18, instead opting to launch it in early 2027 – believed to be around March.
Instead Apple will focus on the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max, which will have incremental improvements over the iPhone 17 Pro lineup.
But all eyes will be on the iPhone Ultra, Apple’s first foldable device, which will reportedly have a front 5.5-inch display that will open to a 7.6-inch iPad mini-like screen.
Tech Guide 3D printed the rumoured iPhone Ultra design to see how it compares to the iPhone 17 Pro Max and the Samsung foldable devices.
The device will have similar dimensions, shape and size to the recently released Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8.
There has been no shortage of rumours about what we can expect with the new iPhone Ultra foldable including the fact there will be no Face ID but instead Touch ID to secure the device.
There are likely to be two cameras on board – a wide and ultra-wide camera but no telephoto.
But perhaps the biggest speculation is around when the product will be available.
There have been rumblings the iPhone Ultra was facing production delays and wouldn’t be released until later in the year.
The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max could be on the market as early as September 18, which is a week and a half after the launch event.
The iPhone Ultra is likely to have a staggered release with the US likely to be the first country to receive it.
But there are reports that other countries, including Australia, may not be able to get their hands on the new foldable iPhone until late 2026 or early in 2027.
The other speculation is the price with rumours the iPhone Ultra foldable will be priced at $3499.
Apple has already stated that the new iPhones will be more expensive as a result of the memory and storage component shortage.
Apple will also be releasing the Apple Watch Series 12 and the Apple Watch Ultra 4 on September 10.
There’s also a possibility a new smart home device will be introduced.
For years, rumours have been swirling about a new HomePod with a display.
At the event, Apple will also announce the launch dates for iOS 27, iPad OS 27, macOS Golden Gate, watchOS 27, visionOS 27 and tvOS 27.
