It was only a few weeks that Apple unveiled iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 at the Worldwide Developers Conference. The good news is you can install them right now on your Apple devices when you sign up to the Apple Beta Software Program.
The final versions will be available in September, but you can install iOS 16 on your iPhone and iPadOS 16 on your iPad right now.
The Apple Beta Software Program provides early access to the latest operating system so early users can help weed out any bugs and improve the quality and performance by sending anonymous diagnostics and usage data to Apple.
But one thing to remember before you join the program – backup your iPhone and iPad before updating to the public beta software.
This is a safety measure in case the install doesn’t go to plan so you can then restore your device as it was.
Here’s what you need to do to install iOS 16 and iPadOS 16
iOS 16
The re are a number of new features in iOS 16 includes a range of new features and capabilities including a new personalised lock screen, shared iCloud photo library and the ability to recall a sent text message.

To start the installation of iOS 16 you need to head to the Apple Beta Software Program page on your iPhone sign in with your Apple ID.
On this page you will find a link to install a new profile to prepare your iPhone for the iOS 16 Public Beta.
Then go to Settings > General > Profiles and you will see the iOS 16 profile. Click install and your iPhone will restart.
When your iPhone starts up again go to Settings > General > Software Update and you’ll find the iOS 16 Public Beta waiting to install.
iPadOS 16
iPadOS 16 has new features in messages to allows users to kick off a collaboration with others and then manage the shared content across files, keynote, numbers, pages, notes, reminders and Safari along with other third-party apps
iPadOS 16 has a lot in common with iOS 16 and macOS Ventura including Stage Manager, new Mail tools, new Message features and iCloud Shared Photo Library.

To install iPadOS 16 Public Beta, use your iPad to visit the Apple Beta Software Program page and download and install the new profile to get your device ready for the update.
After installing the profile and restarting the iPad go to Settings > General > Software Update and you will find the iPad OS 16 Public Beta update ready to install.
