Better late than never – Westpac has finally made Apple Pay available to customers with an eligible Mastercard debit or credit card of eftpos Handycard.

Westpac became the last of the big four banks to offer Apple Pay as an option for its customers through iPhone, Apple Watch and online.

“We are pleased to announce that Westpac customers can now use Apple Pay to make fast and secure payments,’ says Westpac group chief executive, consumer, David Linberg.

“This comes at an important time for our customers, who are looking for an alternative to cash.

“We have seen a significant increase in customers using digital banking in recent weeks as more Australians stay at home.

“With the introduction of Apple Pay, it will now be even easier for customers to pay for goods and services in stores, via apps or online without the need for a card or wallet.”

Apple Pay offers privacy and security each time you make a transaction because your actual card number is not exchanged with the retailer or with Apple.

Instead a unique device account number is created for each purchase and encrypted and stored in the iPhone’s secure element.
