NBN expands fibre to more than 300,000 homes – is your suburb on the list?

NBN Co today announced the suburbs and towns around Australia where more than 300,000 homes and businesses currently served by Fibre to the Node (FTTN) will be eligible for a Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) upgrade.

This expansion to increase the fibre footprint will enable more than two million FTTN premises upgrade to FTTP by the end of the year.

The NBN announced this fibre expansion back in September 2020 and this latest batch of expansion areas continues that project to enable customers to achieve even faster Internet speeds at home.

“We are working to unlock new social and economic benefits by pushing fibre deeper into communities,” says Kathrine Dyer, Chief Operating Officer at NBN Co.

“In addition to the inherent speed benefits offered by Fibre to the Premises, these full fibre connections significantly reduce the number of copper connections in our network.

“Fibre is inherently more capable of delivering faster upload and download speeds, is generally more reliable than copper connections and reduces our maintenance and operating costs.”

To receive the full fibre upgrade, eligible households will need to order through a participating retailer one of NBN’s three highest residential speed tiers – NBN Home Fast with speeds of up to 100Mbps, NBN Home Superfast with speeds up to 250Mbps or the NBN Home Ultrafast with speeds up to 1Gbps.

As this fibre expansion continues, the NBN is on track to enable up to 8 million premises across the country to access speeds of up to 1Gbps by the end of 2023.

Customers can find out if their home or business is eligible to upgrade from FTTN to FTTP by registering for updates at nbn.com.au/fttpupgrade.
