Google reveals its top searches for an extraordinary 2020

It’s certainly fair to say 2020 has been an extraordinary year which started with terrifying bushfires followed by a global pandemic that kept us locked down working and learning from home. And naturally we turned to Google to search for answers.

Google’s top searches for 2020 show some remarkable trends, events, people along with food and current affairs.

With the year nearly at an end, Google has released its list of top searches which accurately track what we went through this year and what we were curious about.

The year started off with smoky skies as Australia was ravaged by bushfires.

A common search term at this time of year was “fires near me” as well as checks for air quality.

But it wasn’t long before a little virus called COVID-19 shutdown the world and forced us into lockdown and on the hunt for toilet paper, face masks and hand sanitizer.

And as a result stores and offices were shut down and jobs were lost before people frantically applied for Centrelink and job keeper.

Australians were curious about how to make their own sanitary products including hand sanitizer which turned out to be the most searched for recipe.

And because we weren’t eating out, we had to cook for ourselves with spaghetti bolognese and beef stroganoff featured as the top trending recipes.
