New powerful and durable Suunto 7 sport smartwatch is a fitness coach on your wrist

The latest generation of the Suunto sport smartwatch has been revealed at the 2020 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas with a number of new features and the integration of Google’s Wear OS.

The premium Suunto 7 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100 platform so you’ve got the power of a smartphone on your wrist which means it can handle being used as a sport watch and as a smart watch.

It will be available on January 31 for $799.

Suunto 7, which can be paired to both iPhones and Android smartphones, has more than 70 sport modes including running, cycling, skiing, surfing and much more with accurate exercise tracking, music controls and access to the Suunto app for deeper training insights.

Naturally the device also has GPS tracking with 12 hour battery life in this mode.

The Suunto 7 also has new vivid, full colour offline outdoor maps so athletes can follow their progress through the ultra-bright OLED touchscreen display even if there is no network connectivity.

Users can also extend their experience with the Suunto app to follow their exercise data and trends and also connect with partner fitness apps like Strava.

The Suunto 7 balances sport and everyday use thanks to the integration of Wear OS by Google which includes Google Assistant, secure payment options with Google Pay and personalised coaching through Google Fit.

And through the Google Play Store, there is also easy access to thousands of compatible apps.

“Today, whether sport is your passion or your lunch-hour escape, we live in a blended life that demands a technology partner who does not sacrifice functionality in sport or everyday use,” says Heikki Norta, Suunto chief digital officer and president of connected devices.

“Suunto set out to overcome the challenge of designing a smart watch with robust sports watch features, and vice versa, in order to help users get the most out of both their sports and their busy lives.

“Combining Suunto’s decades worth of versatile sports and outdoor expertise with the helpful smartwatch features from Wear OS by Google provides an incredible opportunity for us to inspire new and expanding audiences to explore their surroundings, wherever those adventures might take them.”

The Suunto 7 has been designed and tested in Finland to withstand shock, water and dirt and has a Gorilla Glass screen so it can handle whatever you throw at it whether your outdoors or in the gym.

The Suunto 7 will be available on January 31 for $799 from JB Hi-Fi.
