Samsung will re-enter the laptop market in Australia after unveiling the Galaxy Book S – a clam shell laptop that offers an all-new mobile computing experience.

The slimline Galaxy Book S has a 13.3-inch touchscreen and is just 11.8mm thick and weighs only 960g.

But Samsung is taking a different approach this time around and appealing to the mobile user who wants to enjoy non-stop connectivity.

And the way the Galaxy Book S has been designed will do just that thanks to its mobile-like chipset and performance.

It is powered by the new cutting-edge Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx compute platform and has a 4G LTE SIM card slot so users can experience the freedom of mobile connectivity that allows users to work anywhere and everywhere without tethering you to a wi-fi network.

Samsung has poured its technology into the product and partnered with Microsoft so it can run on the workforce Windows platform.

“At Samsung, we believe that true innovation is only possible through an open, collaborative approach where partners are aligned and motivated to break down barriers and redefine the computing experience,” said DJ Koh, President and CEO of IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics.

“Galaxy Book S combines the best mobility features Samsung has to offer with Microsoft’s leading productivity solutions and Qualcomm Technologies’ performance capabilities to deliver the best mobile productivity experience available in a mobile device today.”

The Samsung Galaxy Book S, like your smartphone, can be always on and always connected so mobile productivity and creativity will never need to be compromised.

The laptop has been designed with mobility in mind and delivers impressive power and performance in a light and thin form factor.

The Galaxy Book S offers uncompromising performance through the Snapdragon 8cx platform – the world’s first 7nm PC platform created for mobile computing by Qualcomm Technologies.

The Snapdragon 8cx is designed to be fan-less to ensure it will always remain cool and also maintain the thin design.

“The Snapdragon 8cx chipset ushers in a new era of always on, always connected devices that empower you to work, multitask and play with ease almost anywhere,” said Steve Mollenkopf, CEO of Qualcomm Incorporated.

“We refused to compromise peak performance for battery life and instead combined the two to create a powerful device experience that offers premium mobile computing capabilities alongside a smartphone’s mobility and connectivity.”

The Galaxy Book S is a remarkable battery life and is capable of 23 hours of continuous video playback on a single charge.

Also included in the SIM card tray on the base of the Galaxy Book S is a microSD card slot which will allow users to expand the memory by up to an additional 1TB.

The computer will come with 8GB RAM and with either 256GB or 512GB of internal SSD (solid-state drive) storage.

Also on board are quality speakers tuned by AKG with Dolby Atmos also included to enhance the entertainment experience for your games, music and movies.

The Samsung Galaxy Book S will be available in two colours – Earthy Gold and Mercury Gray – it will be released in October.

Pricing will be announced closer to the launch date.
