Sony has launched the new WF-1000XM3 wire-free earphones which takes the audio quality and noise cancelling technology from the market-leading headphones and packs them into this smaller form factor.

Onboard the Sony WF-1000XM3 earphones is dual noise sensor technology which works in conjunction with the new HD noise cancelling processor QN1e to sense ambient sound and then block it out.

There is one feed-forward microphone and a feed-back microphone on the surface of each earbud to hear more of the outside noise before the QN1e comes into play to generate a reverse sound wave so all you hear is the audio you’re listening to from your paired mobile device.

Also under the hood is the Digital Sound Enhancement Engine HX (DSEE HX) which can upscale compressed digital music like MP3 formats and brings it closer to the high-resolution audio quality.

The earphones connect with separate Bluetooth signals – one for the left and one for the right earbud – through a new optimised antenna structure for a more stable wireless connection.

It also offers low latency which helps when watching video content so what you’re seeing on the screen is precisely what you’re hearing through the Sony earphones.

The Sony WF-1000XM3 sit in your ear thanks to an ergonomic tri-hold structure and a grippy rubber surface.

You can get up 24 hours of listening time with noise cancelling switched on.

That’s six hours when the earphones are fully charged and then another three charges through the charging case.

There’s a quick charge function as well with just 10 minutes of charge offering 90 minutes of use.

There are controls on the earphones as well so you can hear what’s going on around you (press and hold the left earphone button) and navigation controls on the right.

The Sony WF-1000XM3 earphones are also optimised for Google Assistant or Siri voice controls.

The companion app allows users to dive into more settings including an equaliser with preset listening modes and an ambient mode that can detect your surroundings and adjust the level of noise cancellation.

The Sony WF-1000XM3 are available now and priced at $399.95.
