Amaysim offering the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro now – a month ahead of official launch
Amaysim has jumped the gun and is now offering the highly-anticipated Huawei P20 and P20 Pro smartphones ahead of the official launch which is expected sometime in mid-May.
Huawei has responded to Amaysim’s early move and specified it will officially release the device to Australian customers on May 18
The Huawei P20 and P20 Pro will be priced at $975 and $1,195 respectively when purchased outright and will be shipped directly to the customer for free.
The devices Amaysim will be offering are “grey imports” which means they are shipped in from overseas.
But Amaysim says the new Huawei devices will come with a full two-year warranty so customers can shop with confidence.
This warranty will be serviced in Australia by Amaysim themselves, not Huawei.
In reply to Amaysim’s move to “grey import” stock, Huawei today issued a statement saying the devices which will go on sale on May 18 will be certified to all Australia relevant standards including warranty, safety, software and radio frequencies (carrier spectrum).
Amaysim is offering 12-month and 24-month finance options for the P20 and P20 Pro starting at $46 a month.
Users can then choose a SIM-only plan – including Amaysim’s very own offerings.
If a customer chooses an Amaysim plan with the phone, they will be eligible for three free mobile plan renewals if purchased by the end of April.
The Huawei P20 and P20 Pro were unveiled in Paris last month and include artificial intelligence and a Leica three-lens camera system on the larger P20 Pro.
The P20 Pro three-lens camera includes a 20-megapixel monochrome sensor, an 8-megapixel telephoto lens and a 40-megapixel camera.
DxOMark recently named the P20 Pro as the world’s best smartphone camera.
The P20 and P20 Pro have 5.8-inch and 6.1-inch displays respectively and has still found room for a home button which can be used for gesture control and fingerprint unlocking.
There is also facial recognition on board.
Under the hood is Huawei’s very own silicone – the Kirin 970 processor which incorporates neural processing for some tasks including Face Unlock.
The P20 Pro also has an IP67 water and dust resistance rating while the P20 is rated at IP53.
