Optus has vowed to restore customer confidence in its mobile network and has appointed an independent consultancy firm to upgrade the telco’s network management processes.

This comes after Optus CEO Stephen Rue, Optus Chairman John Arthur its parent company Singtel Group’s CEO Yuen Kuan Moon met in Sydney today with Communications Minister Annika Wells to discuss the recent Triple Zero outages and the network’s responsibility to Australian customers.

In the meeting, the Minister agreed with the decision to bring in independent consultants that will report directly to the Optus CEO and the Optus board.

Kearney will provide immediate insight, quality assurance and verification as Optus improves the standard of its network management, processes and services.

Optus says it will also fully co-operate with the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) as they investigate these recent issues.

“The Optus Board, which includes Singtel Group Chief Executive Officer Yuen Kuan Moon, is confident that Optus CEO Stephen Rue and the management team, supported by the best external expertise, will undertake the critical reforms to continue to transform the business, and strengthen the Optus mobile network, restoring the confidence and trust of the Australian public,” Optus Chairman John Arthur said in a statement.

“The Board’s highest priority is ensuring that Australians can rely on Triple Zero when it matters most, and we would once again like to apologise to all those impacted by the 18 September outage.”
