Pros
  • Affordable - great value
  • Packed with features including Galaxy AI
  • Impressive performance
  • Excllent battery life
Cons
  • No expandable memory

The Samsung Galaxy S24 FE is an excellent smartphone that packages most of the best smartphone and Galaxy AI features Samsung has to offer and places then into device that has an attractive design and an attractive price tag.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 FE is a capable smartphone that offers most of the features of its flagship big brothers, but it can hold its own and offers great value.

Samsung says FE stands for Fan Edition, but another suggestion is Flagship Experience.

It offers a sprinkling of the top-line features – including Galaxy AI – and delivers it from $1,099.

And it also looks just like the Galaxy S24 models with a sharp design.

It is powered by an Exynos 2400 series 4nm chipset which has enough power to run Galaxy AI features (although some need to be processed off the device) as well as offer impressive overall performance and allow you to enjoy top shelf games on the go.

It has a 6.7-inch dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 120Hz refresh rate and it is a pleasure to look at. Apps, websites, movies, images and games look great.

On the camera side, there is a 50MP wide lens, 8MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom and the 12MP ultra-wide lens. It also includes a 10MP selfie camera.

You can produce quality photos and videos whether you’re shooting the sunrise, people or your pet.

And what impressed us was the fact the S24 FE can shoot 8K video at 30fps as well as 4K at 30fps and 60fps.

We also quite like the Dual Recording mode so you can record yourself and whatever you’re looking at. It’s a great to capture reactions and emotions as things are happening.

Now let’s talk about Galaxy AI.

We’re betting anyone who buys the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE would have never used Galaxy AI before.

You know the old saying – you only get one chance to make a first impression.

Luckily the S24 FE doesn’t let you down.

It’s a great introduction the world of Galaxy AI and how it can be used day to day.

It all starts with Call Assist which can offer real time translation during a call.

Interpreter can also do live translations when you’re talking to someone in person.

This worked well when we tested it talking to a Chinese friend and it worked well.

It also worked when we used it watching foreign language films – the real time translation matched the on-screen subtitles.

One requirement is downloading the required language pack. Others include French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Thai and Vietnamese.

Then there’s Chat Assist – great to help reword a text message with a different tone as well as check your spelling and grammar.

You also have Note Assist and Transcript Assist – these are our favourite features to organise our notes as well as transcribe recordings – a great feature for interviews.

Browsing Assist comes in handy when using Samsung’s browser – it can summarise long articles in just a few paragraphs so you can see if you want to find out more and read the whole thing.

There are also Galaxy AI features that can help improve your images, generate new ones and even turn a sketch to a drawing.

You can easily remove unwanted objects or delete them altogether.

The device offers a brilliant showcase of most of the features that Galaxy AI offers.

Photo Assist can turn your photos to drawings

The Samsung Galaxy S24 FE has a 4,700mAh battery – that’s a larger battery than the S24 (4,000mAh) and it lasted a day and a half when we were using it as our daily driver.

We would have loved to see a microSD card slot so users can add their own memory.

Handy to have this extra space if you’re downloading language packs for the Interpreter.

You have two memory variants – 128GB and 256GB.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 FE is priced $1,099 for 128GB of storage and $1,199 for 256GB. It comes in graphite, blue and mint.

VERDICT

The Samsung Galaxy S24 FE is an excellent smartphone that packages most of the best smartphone and Galaxy AI features Samsung has to offer and places then into device that has an attractive design and an attractive price tag.
