ipodtouch1Apple has used its special event in San Francisco to unveil not only a new iPhone but to also refresh its popular range of iPod music players.

A new iPod Touch and a redesigned iPod Nano was revealed with both featuring the smaller Lighting dock connector.

They also include completely redesigned earphones called the EarPod.

The EarPods are designed to fit more snugly in your ear with speakers positioned so they can direct sound right into your ear canal.

The new iPod Touch has inherited the larger iPhone 5’s 4-inch screen and is remarkably just 6.1mm thick.

For the first time the iPod Touch is available in seven different colours – pink, yellow, blue, white, silver, black and slate – with an anodised aluminium back.

Also included with the new iPod Touch is a Touch Loop which looks like a button on the back bottom corner.

It’s actually a way to attach a colour-coded wrist strap to make it easier to hold on the go.

The latest iPod Touch is basically like the new iPhone 5 but without the ability to make calls.

It also runs iOS6 operating system and now also includes Siri – the voice-powered digital assistant.

The new iPod Touch will be available in October and will be priced at $329 for the 32GB model and $439 for the 64GB version.

The new iPod Nano has a 2.5-inch screen

The iPod Nano has been completely re-invented with a new 2.5-inch multi-touch screen which can display six rounded icons on the screen at once.

The new device, which also comes in seven colours, has a home button like the iPhone and the iPod Touch.

And for the first time the iPod Nano comes with Bluetooth on board to allow users to wirelessly access and stream their music.

The iPod Nano will only be available in a 16GB model and will be priced at $169.

Also revealed at the Apple event was the next version of iTunes which features a completely redesigned player and tighter integration with iCloud.

The new iTunes will include a full window interface to make it easier to enjoy your content and also an easier way to browse music, movies and TV content.

The re-designed iTunes will be available as a free download in October.
