Whirlpool has showcased how technology can be used to help families cook, clean and wash smarter than ever before with a range of new appliances which were unveiled at the recent Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
Tech Guide took a tour of the Whirlpool booth at the tech tradeshow to see these impressive new products in action.
These include smart refrigerators, stoves and ovens, microwaves, a new cooking app and a washing machine.
A big part of the Whirlpool story is the Yummly recipe app the company developed which can use the camera in your smartphone or tablet to scan your ingredients and suggest meals you can make using the food it had just seen.
You can recognise vegetables and various proteins and provide a list of suggestions complete with step-by-step instructions with images and videos to prepare the meal.
Yummly can even talk to Whirlpool’s connected appliances to receive instructions including preheating the oven and setting a timer.
The Whirlpool Smart Front Control Range is able to receive personalised recipe suggestions from the Yummly app.
The app has been designed to take into account individual requirements and allergies and create recipes to suit.
The Whirlpool range includes scan-to-cook technology which takes the guesswork out of the process by scanning the barcode on the packaging and sending the instructions directly to the oven.
Each of the Whirlpool products have colour touchscreens to access the settings so it can learn your habits and routines.
The screen itself has a proximity sensor to adjust the size of the display depending on whether you are standing close to the appliance or across the room.
The Whirlpool smart refrigerator also has a number of impressive options including a holiday mode which powers down the unit to minimal levels and also a party mode to produce extra ice and to chill drinks even faster.
Part of the Whirlpool range is a smart microwave that also doubles as a rangehood.
The unit sits above your stove and is ideal for those living in smaller apartments that don’t have room for a dedicated microwave spot.
The Smart Over the Range Microwave can also connect to the Yummly recipe and receive instructions when preparing a meal.
Another enhancement with the Whirlpool appliances is voice control through Google Assistant. The products will also be compatible with Amazon Alexa as well.
Whirlpool has also extended its appliance capabilities to Apple Watch which can be used with more than 20 of the company’s connected appliances.
Apple Watch users will be able to see the current oven status and control commands during an active cycle.
With the Whirlpool dryer, Apple Watch users can control and detect if a cycle has started and see how much time is remaining.
With the Whirlpool washer, users can also control the wash options of an active cycle and adjust that cycle via their Apple Watch.
Speaking of the Whirlpool all-in-one smart washer dryer, the appliance is intelligent enough to dispense the right amount of detergent based on the weight of the load.
These Whirlpool appliances will be available in Australia in the coming months.
