Telstra still has the fastest 4G network in Australia according to a report published by OpenSignal and is several megabits per second faster than rivals Vodafone and Optus.
Telstra has a 4G download average of 23.6Mbps and 17.1Mbps average across both its 3G and 4G networks.
But Vodafone, the Australia’s smallest operator, matched Telstra in terms of offering a consistent 4G LTE (long term evolution) connection with 76 per cent network availability.
The OpenSignal report points out that Australian customers have access to some of the fastest 4G LTE networks in the world with a top 10 ranking in 4G speeds and in the top 20 for network availability.
Australia’s average 3G network speeds also exceed global averages.
The report also points out that our existing networks are already so advanced that smartphone technology has yet to catch up with them.
Telstra and Optus have already built LTE-Advanced networks that are capable of speeds faster than customers can achieve with their existing devices.
