CANON POWERSHOT G7X – $849

It might be pocket-sized but the Canon G7X is a powerful camera.

The G7X has a 20.2-megapixel resolution and has a fast DIGIC 6 processor that captures pictures that are sharp and bursting with colour.

GOPRO HERO4 SILVER – $509

GoPro cameras have become the default device for action junkies and anyone else who wants to film themselves surfing, skateboarding and riding.

And with so many mounts and attachments you can also strap it to your head, your chest, to your dog and also in your car.

The latest Hero4 Silver now has a built-in touchscreen and captures stunning full high definition video at 60fps (frames per second) and 12-megapixel stills.

There’s also wi-fi on board so you can connect to a smart remote or to your smartphone to control the device and see what the camera sees.

NIKON COOLPIX P340 – $450

This tiny but mighty camera will suit the photographer who wants to take quality images without being weighed down with a larger camera and a bag full of lenses.

The P340 is just 10.2cm wide, 6cm long and 3cm deep with a weight of 194g.

It has a 12.2-megapixel sensor and a 5x optical zoom lens with all the features – including shutter speed and ISO control, scene modes and special effects – right at your fingertips on the control ring.
