Samsung partners with Microsoft for HMD Odyssey Windows Mixed Reality headset

Samsung has partnered with another tech giant Microsoft to reveal the HMD Odyssey – an immersive Windows Mixed Reality (MR) headset that can provide a high quality virtual reality experience.

The device has dual 3.5-inch AMOLED displays and a 110-degree field of view with deep blacks and lifelike colours and images to discover virtual experiences.

On the audio side, the Samsung HMD Odyssey has 360-degree spatial sound so the users can enjoy surround sound through the premium built-in AKG headphones.

The headset also comes with array mics for voice commands along with two motion controllers.

“The Samsung HMD Odyssey is a high performing headset, which like all of our products, delivers meaningful innovation to our consumers’ lives” said YG Choi, Senior Vice President of PC Business Team, Samsung Electronics.

“Designed in partnership with Microsoft, the Samsung HMD Odyssey transports consumers to the next frontier of Windows Mixed Reality, which introduces to them to a new, industry leading virtual reality experience.”

The Windows Mixed Reality experience is designed to work right out of the box with the Samsung HMD Odyssey.

Unlike other sophisticated VR headsets, the Samsung device does not require extra external motion sensors.

Users can simply connect their PC and get started.

The Samsung HMD Odyssey is designed to sit comfortably on your head and has an adjustable control wheel to ensure the right fit.

Alex Kipman, Technical Fellow at Microsoft said, “We’re excited to welcome the Samsung HMD Odyssey to the Windows Mixed Reality family of devices.

“This is an incredible product and another important step for the mixed reality journey we are on at Microsoft.
“With the Samsung HMD Odyssey, the team at Samsung has developed a Windows Mixed Reality headset that will delight our fans looking to immersive themselves in the world of mixed reality this holiday.”

The Samsung HMD Odyssey will be released later this year.
