Rolls Royce is a brand that’s already synonymous with luxury but now the car company is looking to the future and has presented its vision on the fusion of technology and motoring.
The Rolls Royce Vision Next 100 is a project led by the Rolls Royce director of design Giles Taylor and takes a bold look forward and asks how the prestigious car brand can redefine luxury for the next hundred years.
As a result of these questions they came up with four key tenets that underpin that vision: The Personal Vision, The Effortless Journey, The Grand Sanctuary and The Grand Arrival.
THE PERSONAL VISION
The Rolls Royce chassis of the future will be built from advanced materials and powered by a zero emissions powertrain.
And customers can get involved in the design, size, silhouette and shape of their Rolls Royce to design and manufacture the vehicle to their taste.
THE EFFORTLESS JOURNEY
The Rolls Royce hood ornament – the Spirit of Ecstasy was sculpted by artist Charles Sykes after Eleanor Thornton and it has guided every Rolls Royce for 105 years.
Now the Voice of Eleanor will be your virtual assistant to connect you to every aspect of the vehicle and remind you about your appointments, tasks and make suggestions to make your day go smoother.
THE GRAND SANCTUARY
Future Rolls Royce drivers will be cocooned in luxury with handcrafted lounge luxury after the coach door and canopy glide to a close.
The vehicle will include handcrafted fine-line Macassar wood paneling that continues behind and around an OLED screen.
In the centre of the cabin is a silk-covered sofa with a futuristic interpretation of modern design.
The cabin has a sense of space and offers uninterrupted views while Eleanor can provide information about everything around them on the transparent OLED screen that dominates the front wall of the interior.
Rolls Royce says the cockpit and steering wheel will be superfluous in the future which will provide more space.
THE GRAND ARRIVAL
The look of the concept Rolls Royce is certainly a head turner. The Vision Next 100 is 5.9m long and 1.6m high.
It has a polished metal grille that flows up over the nose. The upper section of the car is made entirely of dark glass.
It is made from light yet incredibly strong materials with the hull appearing to float above the road.
The 28-inch wheels are hand-built from 65 individual pieces of aluminium and are fully enclosed with the look of a futuristic catamaran.
