Checking into a hotel can take a little while as your room is sorted out and you wait for your key but a new hotel opening in Sydney’s west will allow you to check in online and have your key uploaded to your phone.
Skye Hotel Suites in Parramatta will open its doors in August 1 and will be the first in Australia to offer speedy online check-in.
Now you can bypass reception and have your key sent straight to your smartphone.
The five-star hotel, which is part of the Crown Group, will have 72 apartments style suites that includes keyless entry and a virtual concierge on a tablet to meet your every need.
The keyless entry from your phone would work in the same way as a tap and go payment which utilises the device’s NFC (near field communication) chip to unlock the door.
No more waiting in line to receive a key card and no worry about remembering to take it with you because it’s on your phone.
This technology could also be applied to smartwatches as well.
When Apple Watch launched two years ago, there were hotel chains in the US planning to utilise the product to replace its key cards.
The Skye Hotel Suites will also give customers a chance to choose their mattress firmness on a bed that is adjustable on either side.
The hotel is located a short distance from Parramatta train station and ferry wharf and is 300m from Parramatta Square.
