Amazon has unveiled its latest e-reader – the all-new Kindle Oasis – featuring the largest Paperwhite display and also the first with a waterproof design so you can read your books anywhere.
The new Kindle Oasis has a larger 7-inch screen with 300ppi (pixels per inch) so you can fit 30 per cent more text on the screen for fewer page turns.
But even when you are turning pages, the latest Kindle now has the fastest page turns of any previous Kindle device.
And text looks crisp and sharp on the screen which offers uniform display lighting and no glare.
The screen has built-in ambient light sensors to adjust the display automatically.
The ergonomic design tapers to 3.4mm at its thinnest point with the centre gravity shifted so the device rests in your palm the same way the spine of a real book would.
Kindle Oasis also has the strongest cover glass ever used for its e-readers as well as a new aluminium rear panel.
And despite being the largest Kindle device, the Oasis weighs just 194g which is actually 10g lighter than the popular Kindle Paperwhite.
The device has an IPX8 rating so it can be immersed in up to 2m of water for up to an hour. And it can also handle getting splashed at the beach, in the bath or by the pool.
There are two storage options for the Kindle Oasis – 8GB which is twice the storage of the original Oasis – and 32GB so you have room to store rich content with large file sizes like comics.
Of course, users have full control over the font style and size as well as ragged right alignment.
The new Oasis also includes the same features familiar to Kindle users including WhisperSync which can save the place in your book whether you are reading on the device or listening on Audible.
It will also let you know how much time it will take to read a chapter or the entire book based on your personalised reading speed.
On the battery side – reading time is measured in weeks not hours and has a fast charging capability that means it can be fully recharged in two hours.
The new Kindle Oasis is available for pre-order now from JB Hi-Fi and Officeworks and will be priced at $389 (8GB with wi-fi only) and $529 (32GB which has wi-fi and free cellular connectivity).
