The new Beoplay M5 wireless speaker offers style and omnidirectional sound

B&O Play has released a new member of its impressive family of audio products – the Beoplay M5 – which is a wireless multi-room speaker that offers impressive design and excellent sound.

In typical B&O Play style, the M5 speaker is designed to blend in with your home’s décor.

The company says the device also doubles as a “design object” which can be completely controlled from your smartphone.

Beoplay M5 is covered with premium and acoustically transparent wool-blend fabric from Danish high-end manufacturer Kvadrat.

The speaker itself is made from anodised aluminium with the top of the product acting as a volume control.

The top panel is actually a disc that can be turned in either direction to adjust the volume before slowly rotating back to the original position.

Beoplay M5 also delivers the Bang & Olufsen Signature Sound which, thanks to the large acoustic chamber aboard the M5, sounds crisp and clear.

Listeners get True360 degree sound that can be heard in the same quality no matter where you are in the room.

Onboard are three evenly distributed tweeters, a front-facing midrange driver and 5-inch neodymium subwoofer that fires down towards a vent on the rim of the base.

And you can also tinker with the placement settings through the app so you can specify whether the M5 is free standing, in the corner or up against a wall and optimise the sound.

The Beoplay M5 uses proprietary Ambient Technology which can create true stereo sound from a single speaker.

Also onboard is Chromecast so you can also stream songs from more than 100 music services at up to 96Khz/24bit lossless including Spotify, Google Play Music and Pandora.

Beoplay M5 will be available in two colours – natural and black with more seasonal colours to come and is available now. It is priced at $899.
