Vivo lands in Australia with the S1 smartphone that punches way above its weight
Vivo has made a bold entry into the Australian market with a powerful, yet affordable smart phone – the S1 – which offers an impressive design, finish and features normally found in flagship devices that are more than twice the price.
Vivo is aiming the product at young and dynamic customers who are seeking sophisticated craftsmanship and top shelf features.
The engineers who designed the S1 wanted to create a unique look and adopted new colour production techniques to make it a reality.
The rear panel has a premium colour gradient which seamlessly moves from blue to purple when light plays on the surface.
The vivo S1 is just 8.13 mm thick and weighs only 179g.
On board the S1 is the 6.38 inch Halo FullViewTM Super AMOLED display which has a 19.5:9 aspect ratio and 90 per cent screen to body ratio.
The screen has a full high definition (FHD+) resolution of 1080 x 2340.
The result is a screen that provides customers with a dynamic and immersive view of their content, their apps, their images and videos and their favourite websites.
There is a small droplet shaped notch to make room for the 32-megapixel front camera.
The screen also provides an Always On display at low power so you can always glance the time along with other notifications.
Users can easily customise the Always On theme to add some charisma and personality to the phone.
Another advance feature that is also included with the S1 is the in-display fingerprint scanning technology which allows users to swiftly unlock the device with a single touch on the screen.
It’s also possible to choose from a variety of fun animation effects which appear when the device is unlocked.
Another impressive feature is the vivo S1 front and rear camera systems.
On the front there is a 32-megapixel camera which will allow you to take the highest resolution selfies.
There are even several selfie modes including AI Face Beauty so you can present the best version of yourself along with Selfie Frontlight, AR Stickers and AI Filters.
The rear triple camera system is made up of an 8-megapixel AI super wide-angle camera, the 13-megapixel main camera and a 2-megapixel depth camera.
The AI super wide-angle camera expands your field of view to 120-degrees so you can fit in that landmark, the landscape or more of your friends.
In fact, the phone will automatically switch to the super wide-angle for group photos.
Under the hood is a Sony IMX499 camera sensor so your pictures have natural colour and clarity.
AI also extends to portrait photography and can suggest the best composition for your images so you can capture life’s moments in style.
You can also capture panorama shots along with portraits with the bokeh effect that keeps the subject in focus and artfully blurs the background.
Performance wise, vivo S1 is powered by an MT6768 octa-core processor with a 12nm design with clock speeds of up to 2 GHz.
It also has 6GB RAM and 128GB internal memory which provides enough power to run multiple apps simultaneously.
The phone is running the Funtouch OS 9 user interface with Android 9.0.
There is even an Ultra Game Mode which provides smooth gameplay and reduces frame drop by 300 per cent.
Despite its svelte proportions, it still has enough room to fit in a massive 4,500mAh battery that will provide up to two days use before it needs recharging.
And when it is time to charge you can take advantage of vivo’s unique Dual-Engine Fast Charging to get you back up to full charge in no time.
The vivo S1 is available now at JB Hi-Fi and is priced at $449.
