TCL has released the new affordable 20 R 5G smartphone which packs in a large immersive screen, a triple camera system and NFC functionality while keeping the price below $350.

This is the third 5G device TCL has launched in just four months and joins the TCL 20 5G ($499) and the recently launched flagship TCL 20 Pro 5G ($799).

The device has a 6.52-inch V-notch display with 90 per cent screen-to-body ratio.

The display has a peak brightness of 500nits and includes TCL’s NXTVISION technology which enhances image and videos on the screen

The screen also has a 90Hz refresh rate with 180Hz touch sampling right which makes it ideal for faster reaction times while playing games.

The TCL 20R5G is also 5G compatible, a welcome feature for customers as 5G coverage increases around Australia.

At this price, the TCL 20 R 5G is one of the cheapest 5G smartphones on the market.

The triple 13-megapixel camera system includes AI auto enhancement to ensure your images are optimised for the lighting and what you are shooting.

There is also a two-megapixel depth lens and a two-megapixel macro lens.
On the security side, the device has a fingerprint reader on the back panel as well as face unlock.

The TCL 20 R 5G Is powered by the MediaTek Deminsity 700 chip which offers 28 per cent more power efficiency then an equivalent 8-nanometer processor.

The 20 R 5G has 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage with support for a microSD card of up to 1TB.

Under the hood is a 4500mAh battery which can deliver 10 hours of video, 34 hours of talk time and 210 hours of audio playback.

And with NFC (near field communication), users can now make contactless transactions via Google Pay.

“The 20 R 5G will enable many more people to experience 5G for the first time,” says Joseph Corrente, Channel Manager for TCL Communication Australia, New Zealand and Pacific Islands.

“However, it goes much further than price alone, as we have been able to deliver some very exciting features that we believe make the 20 R 5G best-in-class.

“When added to our broader range, it demonstrates our leadership in 5G smartphones across affordability, accessibility, quality and performance.

“From fast 5G to contactless transactions with NFC and Google Pay, this handset is ready for when Australia opens up again.

“It has a beautiful display and a refresh rate that makes it great for mobile gaming, seamlessly fitting into people’s lives and reinforcing our mission to make important technologies accessible to more people than ever.”

The TCL 20 5G is available in blue and grey and is priced at $349 from Harvey Norman, Officeworks and Mobilciti.

Vodafone will also be offering the device locked to its network for $299 with a post-paid plan.

Stay tuned to Tech Guide for a complete review of the TCL 20 R 5G in the coming weeks.
