Sonos has launched a new go-anywhere speaker appropriately called Roam that can connect directly to your smartphone via Bluetooth when you’re out and to your wi-fi network when you’re at home.
The Sonos Roam is 16.8cm tall, weighs just 0.43kg and has an IP67 rating so its sealed from dust and is fully waterproof.
You can enjoy your music anywhere and the durable design means it can handle various scenarios whether you take it to the beach or on a camping trip.
Users can position and listen to the speaker horizontally or vertically. It has Automatic Trueplay tuning technology and uses spatial awareness to adjust the sound to the speaker’s orientation and to the content playing on Bluetooth and wi-fi.
Under the grill are two class H amplifiers that are perfectly tuned to the drivers and the speaker’s acoustic architecture.
Sonos Roam also has a custom racetrack mid-woofer to handle the mid-range frequencies and maximise low-end output.
Another tweeter also looks after the high frequencies.
When you return home, Roam will automatically re-connect to your home’s wi-fi network.
On the software side, the Sonos Roam can be set up and controlled with the Sonos S2 app and can be synced with other Sonos speakers in an existing multi-room system.
There is also Sound Swap which can move the sound to and from nearby Sonos speakers just by pressing and holding the Roam’s play/pause button.
Sonos Roam supports more than 100 streaming service along with Sonos Radio which is pre-loaded with thousands of live broadcast radio stations and original content curated by Sonos.
Sonos Roam runs for up to 10 hours in a single charge and when it’s not in use, the speaker goes into sleep mode to save power for up to 10 days.
And when it’s time to charge you can pop Roam on a Qi wireless charging mat or purchase a custom-designed Sonos magnetic wireless charger.
Sonos Roam will be available in Lunar White and Shadow Black and will go on sale in Australian on April 20, 2021 for $279.
