Samsung enters a new AI era with the launch of the Galaxy S24 smartphone range

Samsung has entered a new smartphone era with the release of the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 Ultra powered by Galaxy AI which can deliver all new mobile experiences and capabilities.

The new Galaxy S24 range offers one of the biggest year-on-year software upgrades the industry has ever seen.

Galaxy AI has empowered the everyday experience with the device and enables easier communication, more flexibility and creativity, faster and more meaningful search and powerful productivity tools.

“The Galaxy S24 series transforms our connection with the world and ignites the next decade of mobile innovation,” says Eric Chou, Director Mobile eXperience, Samsung Electronics Australia.

“We are excited to bring these latest innovations to Australia and see how our

users around the world empower their everyday lives with Galaxy AI to open up new possibilities.

“Samsung has always been a leader in the mobile category. We have redefined the expectations of what mobile devices can do and how people use their smartphones. From innovating how Australians use a smartphone camera, to developing new ways of communication, the Galaxy S24 Series will continue to push the boundary of what is possible from a mobile device.”

Galaxy AI introduces a number of new features and experiences which will play a central role in how customers use the device.

DESIGN

The Galaxy S24 Ultra now has a titanium frame along with flatter side edges.

The device is display is also flat to make it easier for users to write to the edge with an S Pen.

The Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ also now feature flat edges similar to that we’ve seen with the iPhone 15.

LIVE TRANSLATE
One of the barriers we have to overcome is the language barrier especially when travelling in foreign countries.

The Galaxy S24 has now made that even easier with Live Translate – a two-way real time voice and text translation of phone calls inside the native phone app.

There are no third party apps required and everything takes place on the device.

In our hands-on look at the S24, we were able to make a restaurant booking while speaking to a Korean woman who was hearing the real time translations from English to Korean before we receive the Korean to English translations in reply.

INTERPRETER

If you are talking to someone in person, it’s possible to split the screen on the S24 so the person standing opposite you can read a text transcription of what you’re saying and vice versa.

And this all takes place without the need to connect to the cloud – it all happens on the device and works without cellular data or Wi-Fi connectivity.

CHAT ASSIST

When writing messages and using other compatible apps, chat assist can help users to tailor the message for the person who will receive it.

Chat assist can suggest other tones for your message to ensure it is appropriate communication whether it’s a message to a co-worker, or your boss or a caption for your social media post.

This feature presents your message in several other options to make it more formal, more polite, more respectful, playful and funny.

NOTE ASSIST

Taking notes and recording interviews are pretty common tasks with the Galaxy S24 Ultra which includes the S Pen to allow users to write down notes and organise them into preset templates and formats, create covers to make them easier to identify.

It can also be used to summarise your notes.

TRANSCRIBE ASSIST

Transcribe Assist makes it possible to transcribe interviews using Galaxy AI even when there are multiple speakers and even translate them into 13 other languages.

CIRCLE TO SEARCH

Search has also gone to a new level with the Galaxy S24 thanks to the Circle to Search feature which allows users to circle and highlight anything on your screen to see search results.

During our hands on demo, we were able to circle the sneakers being worn by a person nearby through our camera and within seconds it not only identified the sneaker but also presented online stores where we could purchase it for ourselves.

Circle to Search also works with landmarks and objects you see in the background of social media posts.

And the search takes place without you having to leave the app you’re using.

GALAXY AI EDITING

On the camera side, the Galaxy S24 series also has several AI-powered tools that make it even easier to capture and edit your images and videos.

Low light photography is possible thanks to the upgraded Nightography capabilities.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra now has 60 per cent larger pixels to draw in even more light.

EDIT SUGGESTION

When you take a photo or look at any other photo in your gallery, you can initiate Edit Suggestion.

This AI feature looks at the photograph and suggests ways to improve it.

For example, we had an image with a shadow across the subject’s face and Galaxy AI suggested this edit and then completed the task within seconds.

In another photograph, there was an image which showed the reflection of a woman in a window. Galaxy AI was able to remove that reflection in an instant.

GENERATIVE AI

Generative AI really opens things up for users to remove objects from the background and move and enlarge the subject of the photo to another position wall filling in the background with impressive accuracy using generative AI.

INSTANT SLOW-MO

When editing videos it’s possible to create a section in slow motion with the Galaxy AI able to insert extra frames to slow things down to focus on a particular moment.

These AI powered camera features will also work with select third party social media apps like Instagram.

PERFORMANCE

The Samsung Galaxy S24 series is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 mobile platform for Galaxy for added power and efficiency.

The Galaxy S24, S24+ and S24 ultra all have up to 120Hz adaptive refresh rates.

COLOURS

The Galaxy S24 Ultra colours include Titanium Grey, Titanium Black, Titanium Violet and

Titanium Yellow.

There are also some online exclusive colours including Titanium Blue, Titanium Green and Titanium Orange.

On Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 the available colours will include Onyx Black, Marble Grey, Cobalt Violet and Amber Yellow.

The online exclusive colours are Sapphire Blue, Jade Green and Sandstone Orange and Titanium Orange.
