Apple has confirmed it will be holding a launch event on September 12 (early September 13 in Australia) at the Steve Jobs Theatre at Apple Park which will introduce the new iPhone 15.
Apple sent out invitations to the event with the Apple logo made of sand above the word: Wonderlust.
The immediate speculation was the different coloured sands that make up the logo – blue, silver and grey – will be the new colours of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Things will kick off at 10am in Cupertino which will be 3am Sydney time.
We are expecting to see the new iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus along with the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Screen sizes are expected to be the same 6.1-inch (iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro) and 6.7-inch (iPhone 15 Plus and iPhone 15 Pro Max).
The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will reportedly have narrower bezels so there will be even more screen space without increasing the physical size of the device.
Tech Guide got a hold of the iPhone 15 dummy models earlier this year.
These are based on the specs obtained by case manufacturers to ensure they fit on the new iPhone and can be sold from the day iPhone 15 goes on sale.
On these dummies the edges were a little more rounded with the top of the screen protruding by half a millimetre above the edge panels.
The camera systems on both the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro dummies and the iPhone 14 were also virtually identical.
But the biggest change we saw is with the charging port.
The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models will have USB-C charging ports which means the current iPhone 14 will be the last iPhone with a Lightning port.
Another subtle change can be seen on the iPhone 15 will be the side button and mute button.
The mute switch to silence the iPhone has been there since 2007 but on the iPhone 15 Pro it will be replaced by an action button which can be assigned to do things like open the camera, turn on the torch or open an app.
The volume keys on the iPhone 15 Pro will also now be one larger key rather two separate keys on the iPhone 14.
On the camera side there is speculation the iPhone 15 Pro Max model will include a periscope lens system to offer up to 6x optical zoom.
Design-wise, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will be framed in titanium instead of the usual stainless steel.
The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max introduced the Dynamic Island – the space at the top of the screen to accommodate the camera and sensors to replace the notch.
The word is the Dynamic Island will also be included across all iPhone 15 models.
Other products expected to be announced will be an updated Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra Series 2.
Stay tuned to Tech Guide for all the news and announcements – we will be at Apple Park for the launch event.
