Telstra has today launched the 5G Wi-Fi Pro – Australia’s first 5G mobile broadband device with mmWave capability – to connect at higher speeds on the move across the country on the Telstra network.
The Telstra 5G Wi-Fi Pro will be available through Telstra stores for $599 outright or for $24.95 a month for 24 months.
The device has a 2.4-inch touchscreen which displays the network name and password as well as a usage meter so you can see at a glance how much data you’ve used.
Also onboard is an Ethernet port to connect an external device with a cable, a USB connection to link another device and a 4,500mAh battery that will run for up to nine hours.
The Telstra 5G Wi-Fi Pro can wirelessly link up to 30 devices (15 each on the 2.4 and 5Ghz bands) and also offers Wi-Fi 6 which also speeds up connectivity.
The mobile broadband device takes advantage of both Telstra’s 4GX and 5G networks.
And with mmWave technology, which will form the backbone of Telstra’s long term 5G network rollout, the 5G Wi-Fi Pro will offer high speeds well into the future.
“We’re always working towards the future, and today we’re announcing another huge leap in connectivity for our customers by delivering the first mmWave compatible device,” says Andrew Stormont, Telstra’s product and service design executive.
“mmWave is going to be a big part of our 5G future and with the Telstra 5G Wi-Fi Pro we are offering customers a device that will be able to take advantage of the next iteration of 5G as soon as it arrives.”
Telstra has switched on 5G coverage in 47 cities and larger regional towns across Australia since the rollout began more than a year ago.
In that time, Telstra’s 5G footprint has increased fivefold with more than 700 suburbs across Australia with more than 50 per cent 5G coverage with more than 8 million Australians living, working and passing 5G Telstra coverage every day.
