Doctors are always telling us we need to have a low sodium diet – in other words less salt. But what if there was a product that could preserve the salty taste without needing salt?
That product is the Electric Salt Spoon and we found it at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
The product was developed after doctors were hearing complaints from patients who had been put on low sodium diets.
They were finding the food was too bland and hard to stick to.
Enter the Electric Salt Spoon.
The device passes a small electric current through the food to concentrate the sodium ions in your food and provide that salty taste.
So it can make your food taste saltier without the need to actually use salt.
It’s like having your cake and eating it too.
Developed by Japanese company Kirin, the Electric Salt Spoon can easily become a part of your eating habits and can just replace your regular spoon.
The device weighs 60g (without the battery) and is powered by a 3V lithium ion battery and can be turned on and off using a button on the handle.
The Kirin Electric Salt Spoon is currently available to purchase on the Kirin website for 19,800Y which is around $A200.
