Apple has released the next generation of AirTags which are easier to find with wider Bluetooth range and a louder onboard speaker.
And it’s the same price as the previous model – $49 for a single AirTag and $165 for a four-pack.
The new AirTag doesn’t look any different – it’s the same size so it will still fit into the existing accessories.
But the big improvement is the second generation Ultra-Wideband chip powering the new AirTags – that’s the same chip found onboard the iPhone 17 range, the iPhone Air and the latest Apple Watches.
This makes the AirTags easier to locate.
Precision Finding uses haptic, visual and audio feedback to track items but now it works from up 50 per cent further away than the original.
For the first time Precision Finding will now work with Apple Watch Series 9 or later and Apple Watch Ultra 2 and later to locate their AirTags.
Also onboard is an upgraded Bluetooth chip which also increases the range at which it can be located.
The speakers built into the new AirTags are also 50 per cent louder so you can hear them from even further away if the item is covered, hidden amongst other objects or down bedside a lounge cushion.
The AirTags can be located on the Find My network which uses crowdsourced Apple devices that use Bluetooth to update the item’s location.
The new AirTag works with the Share Item Location feature which is designed to help users recover lost items by securely and temporarily sharing the location with trusted third parties like airlines.
This is useful for recovering delayed or lost luggage and other personal items.
In fact, Apple has partnered with more than 50 airlines to privately and securely accept Shared Item location links.
