OK you’ve downloaded iOS 10 on your iPhone or iPad or thinking about it – or better still you’ve just got yourself a shiny new iPhone 7 – so here are the cool hidden features of the operating system.
We already know about the topline features of iOS 10 – new messaging features, enhanced Siri, Maps and Lock Screen plus lots more.
But there is a surprising number of interesting features that you might not be aware of.
And those who haven’t installed iOS 10 you can find instructions on how to do it here.
Right, here are the top 10 hidden features of iOS 10:
LOW QUALITY IMAGE MODE
Data is a precious thing and is used when you upload content as well like sending an image in a message.
Now you can choose to attach a lower quality image to so it doesn’t chew up your data.
Go to Settings > Messages and scroll right to the bottom to select Low Quality Image Mode.
If you have an iPhone 6S or iPhone 7 with 3D touch you can select one of three levels of brightness of the torch.
Sweep up from the bottom of the screen to access the control centre and then press and hold the Torch button to select your level of brightness.
With iOS 10 you can turn the camera into quite a powerful magnifier that’s even better than the camera’s best zoom.
Go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Magnifier.
And when you’ve set this to on – all you need to do is click the home button three times to access it.
You can also turn on the flash as a light in this mode as well.
Now you can read that menu without putting on your glasses.
You can doodle on your photos in various colours to make your pictures more fun.
Hit the Edit button and then select the three dots on the bottom left, choose Markup – and go nuts!
Now you can ask Siri to “take a selfie” and the iPhone camera will be activated and the front camera selected.
But you still have to hit the shutter button when your duck face is ready.
We know we can type out messages but now with iOS 10 you can write your messages.
In the message, turn the iPhone on its side and you’ll see a large white space where you can write your message with your finger or select one of the pre-written messages along the bottom.
LIKE A MESSAGE
While we’re talking about messages you can also now like a message that you’ve received instead of sending a reply.
Press and hold the message you received and you’ll see a selection of responses including HaHa, Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down, Heart, Question Mark and Exclamation Marks.
SEE ALL UNREAD EMAILS
It’s frustrating to scroll through all of your emails to find the unread messages.
In iOS 10 you can now click on a symbol on the bottom left of the screen to filter your inbox to show just the unread messages.
USE THE CAMERA WITH MUSIC
Anyone who listens to their music on the iPhone will tell you the music stops whenever you activate a camera to take a photo.
With iOS 10 you can snap away while you’re listening to your tunes.
The only time the music will stop is when you’re taking a Live Photo or shooting video.
DELETE DEFAULT APPS
With older versions of iOS, we were stuck with all of the default Apple apps like Stocks, Calculator, Weather and many more.
Not anymore. With iOS 10 you can delete these default apps. And if you need them again you can just download them again.
