ASUS has pulled out all stops with the release of the ASUS Zenbook 14X OLED Space Edition to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the first ASUS laptop that went into space.
That laptop was the ASUS P6300 which blasted off in 1998 and spent 600 days in space on the MIR space station.
The ASUS Space Edition has a slick look with a patterned design and Zero-G titanium colour.
It weighs 1.4kg and is 15.9mm thick.
There are space patterns on the lid and around the keyboard that signify ASUS’s history in space.
The ASUS Space Edition has a stunning 14-inch OLED screen with a 2880 x 1800 resolution, a 92 per cent screen-to-body ratio and a 16:10 aspect ratio.
The screen offers 100 per cent DCI-P3 colour gamut with up to 550nits brightness that’s also TUVRheinland certified flicker free and 70 per cent less harmful blue light for added eye comfort.
But the ASUS Space Edition also has a second ZenVision screen on the lid.
This 3.5-inch mono OLED display can provide smart notifications as well as displaying the timer and date and battery charge level.
Users can also set a message that other people will see while you’re working on the ASUS Space Edition main screen.
The ZenVision screen can be easily customised through the MyASUS app.
The ASUS Space Edition has a full-sized keyboard with dished keys and 1.4mm key travel for the right tactile feel.
The touchpad has an anti-fingerprint coating and integrates the ASUS NumberPad which can be turned on for easy numerical entry.
And the ASUS Space Edition doesn’t just look great – it also sounds great thanks to the Harman Kardon sound system which is Dolby Atmos-certified.
The laptop is powered by the 12 Gen Intel Core i9 processor with up to 32GB LPDDR5 RAM, Intel Iris X integrated graphics, fast PCle SSD storage and Wi-Fi 6E connectivity.
There are also plenty of ports – HDMI 2.0, two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C, USB 3.2 Gen 2, audio combo for headphones and a mic and a microSD card reader.
On the security side, the ASUS Space Edition also has a fingerprint sensor built into the power button.
The new ASUS Space Edition is a remarkable product all the way down to the packaging.
It has a premium out of box experience – it’s one of the best packaged laptops you’re likely to see.
It has a large outer box and a silver box inside that houses the Space Edition laptop.
The smaller internal box that contains the power plug and card can also be used as a laptop stand.
The ASUS Space Edition is available now and is priced at $2,499.
