Bose announces new Portable Home Speaker that can go anywhere

Bose has introduced the Portable Home Speaker which produces 360-degree sound that can truly go anywhere with you and be controlled with your voice.

The device weighs just over 1kg and can be carried by the handle room to room, outside, around the home and anywhere else you want to take it.

The Bose Portable Home Speaker has an onboard battery that runs for up to 12 hours.

It connects wirelessly via Bluetooth so it can stream your music from your phone or tablet.

When it’s connected to a wi-fi network, the Bose Portable Home Speaker also offers Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa so you can access content, find information and control your smart devices with your voice.

Also on board is Apple AirPlay 2 so you can stream directly from your Apple devices as well as Spotify Connect so users can listen directly from the Spotify app and hear it through the Bose speaker.

The Bose Portable Home Speaker has a cylindrical shape and is 19.05cm tall and 10.1cm wide and is housed in an anodised aluminium enclosure.

Users can control the basic functionality of the speaker and navigate their music through the buttons on top of the device.

It also includes a proprietary mic-off feature so you can’t be heard.

Under the hood are three passive radiators, a high excursion driver and a proprietary deflector that all combine to distribute clear high fidelity sound with the bass level that is impressive given the relatively small size of the product.

And with its 360-degree sound, there is no sweet spot for listening – it offers the same consistently high audio quality no matter where you are in relation to the speaker.

The Bose Portable Home Speaker has an IPX4 rating so it can handle spills, a splash and the rain and can also take the drops and knocks as well.

There is a handle on top so you can easily carry it anywhere and the battery is recharged through the USB-C port or by charging cradle that’s sold separately.

“Every Bose smart speaker is Bluetooth and Wi-Fi enabled, but the Portable is the first to offer a rechargeable battery — along with a short list of features everyone wants and loves,” said Ben Burns, senior product manager for Bose speakers.

“We lived with it like anyone else would — with our families and friends, away from work — to make sure it was the kind of product we wanted to use, day after day. It was. And we think people who take it home will feel the same way.”

The Bose Portable Home Speaker is available in two colours – Triple Black and Luxe Silver – and is available for preorder today and will go on sale of September 26 for $499.95.

The charging cradle is also available separately for $39.95.
