Philips Air Performer uses AI to keep you cool and clean the air in your home

You can kill two birds with one stone with the new Philips Air Performer 2-in-1 purifier and fan that not only keeps you cool this summer but also filters and cleans the air in your home.

In fact, it’s the first air purifier in the world that uses artificial intelligence to sense the air quality while analysing outdoor data and room size to maximise performance.

Tech Guide took a look at the new Philips Air Performer.

The unit is 106.2cm tall with a footprint that is 26.2cm wide – so it’s not the most discreet appliance but you know when it gets to work it gets the job done.

The Philips Air Performer brings together an impressive purification system along with powerful fan cooling.

On the purification side, the device has a three-layer NanoProtect HEPA filtration system that can eliminate 99.97 per cent of microscopic particles from the air as it passes through the product.

As it does this, artificial intelligence kicks in to adjust to the amount of filtration required while adjusting to the user’s comfort through smart sensing and machine learning.

The Phillips AI-powered self-adaptive technology can sense the air quality and remove things like bacteria, pollen, dust, pet dander, harmful gases, odours, dust mites and other pollutants which are commonly found in Australian homes.

Sensors on board the device continually scan the air and report in real time so they can react to any increase in pollutants that affect the air quality.

The AI also comes in to play to reduce noise and energy consumption.

On the cooling side, the Philips Air Performer has a bladeless design to create consistent air flow of up to 1,730 cubic metres per hour.

That means it can easily cool and purifier larger rooms up to 70 square metres.

The unit can also rotate up to 350 degrees so it can reach every corner of the room.

Airflow is adjustable so users can choose direct airflow or diffused airflow to even better circulation.

The display in the unit shows the fan speed up to 10 and displays the current temperature which was confusing at first because we thought this was the temperature the machine was trying to reach.

It’s also pretty quiet at a maximum of 47 decibels – that’s quieter than someone talking and in sleep mode it gets down to 20 decibels.

The Philips Air Performer comes with a small remote that attaches magnetically to the top of the product when not in use.

It can also be monitored and controlled using the Air+ app – free to download for iOS and Android – to give you even more information about the indoor and outdoor air quality while offering complete control of the unit itself.

once the air purifier is connected to your home’s wireless network, the Air+ app can also provide notifications about any air concerns.

“At Philips Domestic Appliances, we help consumers to turn their houses into homes by creating meaningful innovations that make their lives better and easier,” says Geoff Hannaford, Country Manager, Australia and New Zealand, Philips Domestic Appliances.

“The Philips Air Performer is a product that does just that. It is the smartest 2-in-1 air purifier in the world to use Artificial Intelligence to automatically clean the air and cool it down.

“The AI technology is unique to us.  Thanks to advanced sensors and smart algorithms, this device only acts when needed avoiding unnecessary energy consumption. After extensive consumer research and technical development, I’m looking forward to this connected innovation allowing our consumers to enjoy cleaner and healthier air at home.”

The Philips Air Performer is available now and is priced at $799.
